Story
My name is Abu Bakarr Jalloh, a Sierra Leonean writer, journalist, content creator, and founder of The African Dream.
For years, I have dedicated myself to telling African stories, amplifying African voices, and using digital media to showcase the people, ideas, history, culture, achievements, and possibilities of our continent.
I started this journey because I believe Africa deserves to be told by Africans—not only through the challenges we face, but also through our creativity, resilience, innovation, and dreams.
Today, I am reaching out to ask for your support.
I am raising Le35,000/$1,700
This fundraiser is about getting the basic tools and stability I need to continue my work and take The African Dream to the next level.
The funds will be used for three immediate priorities:
Laptop — Le20,000
I need a reliable laptop to write, research, edit content, manage The African Dream, produce videos, communicate with people, and continue developing my work as a digital storyteller.
Internet/Wi-Fi — Le4,500
The internet is my workplace. I need reliable connectivity to research stories, publish articles, upload videos, manage social media, communicate with sources and audiences, and remain consistent online.
Rent — Le9,000
I am also raising support to cover 12 months of rent. Having this basic stability will give me the breathing room to focus on my work while I continue building sustainable income from my media and creative activities.
Fees & contingency — Le1,500
A small portion will cover fundraising/payment-related costs and any essential expenses associated with acquiring the equipment and services.
Total Goal: Le35,000
I know that asking for financial support is not easy.
I have always wanted to build something of my own—to create opportunities, tell stories, and make an impact through my work. But sometimes, before you can build something bigger, you need people who are willing to help you get through the difficult stage.
This is one of those moments for me.
I am not asking you to fund a finished success story.
I am asking you to support the journey.
The African Dream has already reached people across Sierra Leone, Africa, and beyond. But I believe it can become much more—a sustainable African media platform that tells our stories, documents our progress, celebrates our people, and creates opportunities for African storytellers.
I want to keep building it.
And I need the tools and stability to do that.
How You Can Help
If you believe in my work, you can support this campaign by making a contribution of any amount.
Le50 matters.
Le100 matters.
Le500 matters.
Le1,000 matters.
And if you are able to give more, it will take me even closer to the goal.
If you cannot contribute financially, please share this fundraiser with your friends, family, colleagues, diaspora communities, and anyone who believes in supporting young African creators and entrepreneurs.
You never know whose timeline your share might reach.
Every contribution will bring me one step closer to having the tools I need to work, create, and continue building.
Thank you for believing in me.
Thank you for believing in The African Dream.
And most importantly, thank you for helping me keep going.
Help me keep building. Help me keep creating. Help me keep telling African stories.
